Historic Montgomery General Store History

Established in 1890 as a mercantile, Montgomery’s is among the oldest, continually-operating general stores in Colorado.  We have almost anything and everything you may need during your visit to the beautiful Colorado mountains here in the Routt National Forest.

Montgomery's is as much a museum as it is a general store. There are touches of the past in everything.  Sales are made using hand-crank adding machines and a hand-crank cash register. The walls have various big game trophies such as elk, deer, bobcat, and bear. A classic meat counter and the welcoming, old-fashioned wood-carved statue of a cowboy ensure that you know you've stepped one foot into history while remaining firmly in today when you have a look at our stock of groceries, clothes, sporting goods and more.  And yes, Montgomery's does accept credit cards!

If you have requests for items or questions, just send an e-mail, give us a call or stop by, Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm. From Memorial Day through Hunting Season, the store is also open on Sundays from 9am to 5pm.

We hope to see you soon!
